Nova Spine & Wellness Uses Natural Methods to Correct Scoliosis and the Pain that it Causes

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine which causes stiffness and pain. It is called an “idiopathic disease” because the cause of it is unknown. Scoliosis is more common in females and begins in childhood. However, merely 2% of the population is afflicted. Thankfully, if it is detected early, targeted scoliosis treatment will prevent the condition from worsening over time.

People with scoliosis have a sideways curve in their spine that makes an “S” or “C” shape. The vertebrae can rotate at the thoracic level of the spine causing this curve and resulting in a hump near the rib cage. If the curve is more than 60 degrees it is considered serious. Usually this curve makes the waist or shoulders uneven. And unlike the normal curvature of the spine, adjusting your posture will not correct the problem.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SCOLIOSIS?

Some of the most common symptoms of scoliosis include:

  • one shoulder being higher than the other,
  • one shoulder blade being more prominent than the other,
  • one hip being more prominent than the other,
  • leaning to one side,
  • constant back pain,
  • sore and tender muscles.

In severe cases of scoliosis, the nervous system can be affected. In these instances, the bones in the spine compress on one or more nerve endings, leading to a series of symptoms which include:

  • a loss of bladder control,
  • a loss of bowel control,
  • numbness or weakness in the legs.

Fortunately, scoliosis sufferers can benefit from prolonged spine & wellness care which will alleviate the symptoms of this condition. At the Spine & Wellness Centre, we meticulously examine the health of our scoliosis clients; examining your spine and enquiring about your current lifestyle, medical symptoms, family health history and any previous injuries which you have sustained. Subsequently, we utilise this information to identify the source of your pain and actively administer appropriate treatment.

In order to scrutinise the extent of your scoliosis, we will measure the length of the legs to determine unevenness as well as performing a range of motion tests that measure your mobility at the waist. At the Spine & Wellness Centre, we can recommend a wealth of different treatments which can help alleviate you symptoms.

These treatments include:

  • sport massage therapy to support the healing process of your muscles and spine,
  • moist heat pads to alleviate back pain and sore or tender muscles.
  • Reffer for additional support as needed.
